Aventurine - Healing properties of aventurine

The metaphysical properties of aventurine change according to its colour.

Aventurine comes mainly in two colours, red and green, although sometimes it can be blue or peach.

Aventurine is a faintly translucent type of quartz spangled with inclusions of minerals which determine its colour and give it a certain glitter. Thus mica makes it silvery or coppery, chrome mica makes it green and haematite makes it red to brown. (An imitation of the brown variety is the so-called gold-stone, which used to be made into cigar-holders. It is a sort of glass, that is melted for small flakes of copper to be stirred in.)

The reddish brown sort comes from Siberia and Madagascar, and bestows vitality.

The green sort comes from India and Nepal. It marks a combination of the Moon and Uranus and gives unexpected and surprising adventures and luck in love and games. It makes an individual independent and original. Green aventurine has a binding and healing force and is good for skin diseases (Libra). The imperial seal of China was cut from aventurine (at a time before jade became popular there) because the stones of heaven were all thought to be green.

A blue variety, vivianite, contains iron phosphate and comes from Brazil and Madagascar.

Aventurine provides for balancing of the male/female energies, enhancing ones creativity, supplementing motivation in activities, and augmenting the a sense of adventure.

Green Aventurine is used mainly around the heart chakra offering a sense of space so that one can clear negative emotions and help activate fresh input. It may also be used to protect the heart chakra when one feels that someone is trying to invade ones space and suck out ones energy and vitality. This is commonly referred to as someone being a “psychic vampire”.

Red Aventurine is especially beneficial for reinforcing decisiveness, enhancing leadership abilities and encouraging spontaneous action.

It has been used in the treatment of disorders of the lungs, heart, adrenal glands, and the muscular and urogenital systems.
