Most Important Associations: Unrequited love. Coral is a colour that hardly has a role at all in Western society. For Native Americans, however, it has a deep meaning. Among other colours, coral is used by them for jewellery, so rich in symbolism. The Persians weave this colour into their carpets, for coral has the ability to bring happiness and good fortune into the home.
Symbolic Meaning: Coral grows in the sea. Therefore, it is associated with the unconscious and the subconscious. The little animals of which coral consists sacrifice their individuality for the good of the community. Coral reefs need light in order to grow. As a result, they strive for light.
Coral is also a symbol for the skeletal structure of human beings. Coral represents a more intense version of the colour orange, at least with respect to its symbolic content.
Spiritual Meaning: Higher intuition.
Mental Meaning: Projection (of positive or negative characteristics to other persons, instead of recognizing them in yourself). Self-analysis. Possibility of getting beyond your own frustrations. Dependency. Co-dependency, and in the resolved form—independence and interdependence.
Emotional Meaning: Unresolved versus resolved relationships. Spontaneity. Protection from dishonesty. Ability to accept love. Joy in love. Feelings of aloneness and isolation versus all-one-ness.
Physical Associations: Glands. Elimination organs and sexual organs. Psychosomatic illnesses. Birth trauma and other shocks.
Crystals: Coral is not actually a stone (see above), but it is often considered to be a stone, or precious substance in jewellery making. Rose quartz. Some shades of Carnelian. Red Aventurine. Rhyolite.
